Evelyn M. Johnson, 82, of Overlook Medical Center, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully of natural causes the afternoon of Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in Jameson Hospital. Evelyn was born Jan. 9, 1931, in New Castle, a daughter and one of seven children born to Marion and Lena Thomas Johnson. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of New Castle High School. Evelyn retired from Universal Rundle, which is now Nortec Inc., New Castle. She previously worked at the former Johnson Bronze Co., and the former Macaluso Nursing Home, which is now Avalon Nursing Home, all of New Castle. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church in New Castle, where she was a member of their choir. Evelyn loved rooting for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, singing and dancing, and spending time with her family who will miss her dearly. Her husband, Paul S. Johnson Sr., whom she married Jan. 12, 1957, passed away July 11, 1992. She is survived by her three daughters, Carol A. (Richard) Seawood of Youngstown, Ohio, and Cheryl L. and Darlene L. Johnson, both of New Castle; two sons, Paul S. Johnson Jr. and Gregory S. Johnson, both of New Castle; two brothers, William Johnson of New Castle and Thomas Johnson of San Diego; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson, Tyrique. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Robert, Richard and Johnny Johnson; and a sister, Sally Johnson. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Ave., with the Rev. Norman Hunt, pastor, officiating.
